ULTRA LOW POWER CONSUMPTION TECHNOLOGY ENABLING MAINTENANCE-FREE OPERATIONs IN REMOTE locations

All MetrySense products use novel, proprietary algorithms and feature an innovative hardware design, resulting from many years of development and a unique expertise in the fields of T&D power lines, signal processing and radio communications. Consequently, the MetrySense family of sensors and routers achieve the lowest power consumption in its class, consistently proving its effectiveness when compared to competing units and/or technologies.

MetrySense radio includes proprietary synchronization algorithms that allows for operation in ultra-low power mode, while maintaining system stability, responsiveness and reliability. The sensors and routers are in standby most of the time, and periodically are activated for a very short time in order to extend information when required. The activation cycle is 100ms in applications that require a fast response and up to few seconds in application that are not time-critical such as the MetrySense-4000.  In this configuration, the average power consumption required for maintaining a two-way, stable and responsive mesh radio network is as low as tens of uA. These low power consumption levels  allow for inductive power feeding from currents lower than 2A, or 10 years of operation using primary batteries before a battery replacement is required.

MetrySense sensing hardware and algorithms were designed according to ultra-low-power requirements, and consequently the sensing operation itself is extremely low power, and in some applications require less than 20uA in average.

MetrySense sensors and routers uses the following power source options:

  • Inductive power feeding from the line – even from currents lower than 2A. This feature is critical for deployment in rural distribution grids where currents can be as low as 2A over a large segment of the grid.
  • Miniature integrated solar panels – using adaptive power optimization for best operation.
  • Internal primary battery – used for backup or as a standalone option when other power feeding options are not available.
  • External source – e.g. in substations with internal backup battery.

In the event that extra-high reliability and flexibility are required the product supports a combination of power feeds from multiple sources – e.g. Inductive power feeding + miniature solar panel + internal primary battery for backup.
